Identity Verification
A top priority for Amazon Appstore is to maintain the security and trust of Appstore developers and users. To strengthen the integrity of Appstore and protect against fraudulent activity, Amazon can require app developers to verify their identity. This verification process ensures that only genuine accounts can access Amazon developer services to help maintain a safe, reliable environment for app distribution and user engagement. Your cooperation keeps the Amazon Appstore a trusted space for both developers and users.

How to verify your identity
To complete the identity verification process, you must upload a photo of your government-issued ID.
To verify your identity

Troubleshooting
This section helps you troubleshoot issues you might encounter during identify verification.
Government-issued ID doesn't match company profile details
If you're unable to match your government-issued ID with the information on the Company Profile page in the Developer Console, please contact Amazon developer support. When completing the Contact Us form, select the category and topic Account Identity Verification and explain your issue.
Incomplete or failed identity verification
If you don't complete the identify verification process within the time allotted, or don't successfully verify your identity, Amazon can take strict actions on your account. Strict actions include disallowing new app submission, IAP submission, and app updates, or deactivating your account. If you don't complete the identity verification flow after 24 hours or have three failed attempts, you will fail identity verification. To appeal this outcome, please contact Amazon developer support.
If you receive an error during the verification process, you can troubleshoot using Common mistakes when verifying your identity.
Common mistakes when verifying your identity
When verifying your identity, you must submit an ID and confirm your account details. Verification can fail for multiple reasons. The following are some common rejection reasons and how to fix them.
Rejection reason | Error message | How to fix |
---|---|---|
Country mismatch | You chose to use an ID issued by {Country}. Make sure you chose the correct country and try again. | Based on the ID you're submitting, make sure to select the correct country that issued the ID. If you select Canada but upload a passport from Mexico, you'll receive this error. |
ID type mismatch | You chose to use a {ID Type} as an ID. Make sure you chose the right ID type and try again. | Based on the ID you're submitting, make sure to select the correct ID type (for example, driver's license or passport). If you select passport, but then upload a driver's license, you'll receive this error. Make sure if both sides of your ID are requested, you submit both the front and back sides of the ID. |
Expired ID | You'll need to provide an unexpired ID to verify your identity. | Use another ID that is not expired, and try again. |
Name mismatch | You'll need to use an ID that matches {your name}. | The name on your Amazon Developer account (your identity) has to match the name on your ID. |
Blurry photo of the ID | Make sure the photo is in focus and you can see the entire ID. | If the photo of your ID is blurry or unreadable, Amazon recommends taking another photo of your ID. Make sure the ID is laying flat on a surface. Allow your camera to focus. If needed, zoom in or out to make the image clearer. For tips on taking photos of your ID, see Taking Photos of Your ID. |
Glare | To reduce glare, move away from the direct light. | Glare usually happens when light is angled towards the ID and reflects off the lamination. Amazon recommends taking a photo of your ID using natural light, for example, during the day in a well-lit room. For tips on taking photos of your ID, see Taking Photos of Your ID. |
Barcode not visible | Make sure the photo of your ID is in focus and you can see the entire barcode. | It's important your ID photo includes all required information. Make sure the image isn't cropped and displays the whole ID. |
Identical front and back photos | It looks like the same photo was used for the front and back of your ID. You'll need to provide photos of the front and back of your ID. | Make sure to include an image of both the ID's front and back before trying again. |
Age (18+) | If you're under 18, you may use Amazon Services only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian who is over 18 must submit their ID in order to proceed. | Amazon can verify identities only for individuals over 18 years old. A parent or guardian who is over 18 must update the identity of the Amazon developer account using their information. |
Generic or system issue | We're having trouble verifying your identity. | Sometimes the system has an issue processing your submission. Try verifying your identity again. If the issue persists, use a different ID. |
If you continue to have issues with the photo of your ID, such as glare or blurry results, consider using a different type of ID. For a list of accepted ID types, see Accepted IDs for Identity Verification. For better processing, Amazon recommends uploading a JPEG, JPG, or PNG file.
Account access issues
The first user associated with the developer account is considered the owner and retains full rights to administer the developer account. They have a unique role of "Administrator (owner)". The individual who is designated as the developer account owner should be someone within the company who maintains access to this owner account.
If the account owner is issued an identity verification request and they are inactive or unavailable, have a representative that can make company decisions act as the account owner. Then change the details on the Company Profile page to match those of the acting owner. Amazon uses the information provided in the company profile to verify the account. If you can't access the developer account, contact Amazon developer support.
