General two-step verification FAQ
- Q: What is two-step verification?
- Two-step verification is a process that protects access to your information. Amazon requires two-step verification when you add or edit payment information in the Developer Console. Two-step verification uses either a one-time password sent by SMS text or phone call to your registered phone number, or a code in an authenticator app. You must be an account administrator to access the Payment Information page.
- Q: Which developers must use two-step verification?
- All developers who want to update or access their payment information in the Amazon Developer Console must use two-step verification. Accessing the Payment Information page under Settings > Payments and Benefits initiates the two-step verification process.
- Q: How can I get the verification code for two-step verification when I try to access my payment information?
- To complete two-step verification, you can choose to receive either an SMS text or phone call to the registered number on the My Account page, or any phone numbers added to the Amazon retail account associated with your developer account. For more information about how to add phone numbers to your Amazon retail account, see Where can I add or edit my current phone number? or I want to set up two-step verification on the Amazon account associated with my developer credentials for the first time. How do I do this? You can also use an authenticator app.
For mobile phones, charges might apply. Contact your mobile phone provider for your rates. - Q: Does two-step verification support authenticator apps?
- Yes, two-step verification supports authenticator apps. For setup information, see I want to set up two-step verification on the Amazon account associated with my developer credentials for the first time. How do I do this?
If you prefer to use an authenticator app rather than a phone number, make sure to set it up as the preferred method.

To associate a number with your account, enter your phone number and then enter the two-step verification code sent to you.You can also add a phone number in the Developer Console.
