Manage Communications Features in the Management Console
After you create your organization, properties, and rooms, you can use the Alexa Smart Properties (ASP) management console to manage address books, create contacts, associate address books to rooms, configure drop-in preferences (Alexa Smart Properties in healthcare), and enable inbound calling (Alexa Smart Properties in senior living).

Manage address books and contacts
Create an address book
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Click Create Address Book.
- In the Name field, enter a unique name for the address book.
- Click Create.
Change an address book name
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- From the list of address books, select the address book you want to update.
- Next to the address book name, click Edit.
- Edit the address book name.
- Click Save.
Associate an address book with rooms
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Select the address book you want to associate.
- From the Actions menu, select Associate.
- On the Associate Address Books page, select the property.
- From the list of rooms for the property, select the rooms you want to associate the address book with.
- Click Associate to associate the address book with the rooms.
Disassociate an address book from rooms
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Click the check box next to the address book you want to disassociate.
- From the Actions menu, select Disassociate.
- On the Disassociate Address Books page, select the property.
- From the room list, select the rooms you want to disassociate the address book from.
- Click Disassociate.
Or, you can disassociate address books from rooms by one of the following methods:
- In the Associated Rooms tab of the Address Books page, you can select the rooms from which to disassociate an address book.
- In the Room settings page of the room that you want to disassociate an address book, click Edit, remove any address book associations, and then click Save.
Update the address book association for a room
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to your Properties page.
- In the list of properties, select the property.
- Navigate to the Rooms page for the property.
- Select the room from the room list.
- In the Room settings page, click Edit.
- In the Associated Address Books menu, select the new address book.
- Click Save.
Delete address books
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Select one or more address books to delete.
- From the Actions menu, click Delete.
- In the dialog box, click Confirm.
Add a contact to an address book
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- From the list of address books, select the address book.
- In the Contacts pane, click Create.
- In the Name field, enter the contact name.
- Select the contact type: Phone number or Room.
Note: Phone number isn't supported in the FR console.

Enter the contact details as follows:
- If the contact type is Phone number, add up to three phone numbers for the contact. The phone numbers currently supported are US, UK, and Canada (CA) telephone numbers in E.164 format.
- If the contact type is Room, select the Property and Room.
- Click Create.
Update a contact in an address book
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Select the address book.
- Click the Contacts pane.
- From the Contacts list, select the contact, and then click Edit.
- In the Contact Details page, make any needed changes, and then click Save.
Delete contacts from an address book
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Address Books page.
- Select the address book.
- Click the Contacts pane.
- From the Contacts list, select the contacts to delete, and then click Delete.
Manage drop-in preferences
You can manage the drop-in preferences for the Alexa devices in a healthcare unit. Similar to an intercom, drop-in lets you connect directly with a contact. To set up drop-in, both the source unit, such as a patient room, and the target unit, such as a nurses station, must have the other unit as a contact in their associated address book. Drop-in is one way, from the target unit to the source unit.
Manage drop-in preferences for a room
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Properties page.
- In the list of properties, select the property that has an Alexa Smart Properties in healthcare subscription.
- Navigate to the Rooms page for the property.
- From the room list, select the room from which you would like to enable drop-in calls.
- In the Communication Preferences section, specify a Communication Profile Name.
The Communication Profile Name is the name displayed for the room in a contact's address book. - From the Allowed Rooms for Drop-in drop-down list, select the contacts you want to enable to make drop-in calls from the current room.
The drop-down list shows contacts from the address books associated with the room.Note: To enable drop-in between rooms, both rooms must have each other listed as contacts. - Click Save.
Manage inbound calling
To allow an external contact to place an inbound call to an Alexa-enabled device associated with a property unit, you add the external contact to the address book associated with the property unit.
Enable or disable inbound calling for a room
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties in senior living management console and navigate to the Properties page.
- In the list of properties, select the property.
- Navigate to the Rooms page for the property.
- Select the room from the room list.
- In the Communication Preferences section, specify the Communication Profile Name.
The Communication Profile Name is the name displayed for the room in an external contact's address book. - From the dropdown, select the contacts you want to enable to make calls to the room.
The dropdown shows contacts from address books associated with the room. - Click Save.
