Manage Networks in the Management Console
You can use the Alexa Smart Properties management console to manage the Wi-Fi networks for your devices. You can configure multiple devices to connect to a different WPA2 Wi-Fi network at the same time. This is useful in scenarios in which the network for your property has changed, or if you set up devices in one location, with one network, and then moved them to the property, which uses a different network.
To update the Wi-Fi networks for devices in the console, you first save the network information to the property. Then you can use a room template to apply the network details to the devices associated with rooms.
Save the networks to your property
Save the details for a Wi-Fi network with your property. This action makes the network available to room templates later.
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and choose the property.
- From the Actions menu, click Save Network.
- Enter the Network Name (SSID) and select the Network Type.
- For networks with the WPAPSK type, also enter the Pre-shared key.
- Click Add Network.
Update devices to use a saved network
You use a room template to apply a saved network to the devices associated with a room.
You can create a new template that includes network settings, or clone an existing template. Make sure you saved the network to your property before you create the room template.
To create a new template, see Create a room template. To clone an existing template, see Clone a room template.
In the settings for the template, select the network to apply with the template in the Network Settings section.
To apply the network settings to a device, make sure that the device is associated with a room and is online. Then apply the template to the room. For details about applying a template to a room, see Apply a room template.
View the networks for a device
You can view the networks installed on a device in the console.
- Open the Alexa Smart Properties management console and navigate to the Echo Devices page for your property.
- In the list of devices, click the device name to open the detail page for the device.
- The networks installed on the device display in the Device Networks section.
Troubleshoot network errors when applying a template with a network configuration
If an error occurs when applying the template, the console displays an error message banner with an option to download the specific errors in to CSV file.
Issue: Device offline exception
Symptoms
The error message shows a DeviceOfflineException
error with the message "The endpoint is offline or unreachable."
Try this
This error indicates that the device is offline, so the template didn't attempt to apply the new network settings to the device. Check the device and make sure it is online, and then try again.
Issue: Network installation timed out
Symptoms
The error message indicates that network installation timed out. For example, "Network installation for device {deviceId} and {networkId} with operationId {operationId} timed out.
"
Try this
This error indicates that the template attempted to install the network on the device, but the device didn't respond for at least five minutes. Try the following steps to fix the issue:
- Power-cycle the device.
- After the device starts up, wait for it to come fully online.
- Check the status of the device on the device details page. To open the device details page, see View the networks for a device.
- If the page doesn't show the network, apply the template to the room again.
